This position is located at the Carpentry Shop of the Maintenance and Repair Section, Facility Management Service at VACHS San Juan, Puerto Rico. The employee is assigned to the surface preparation and painting of floors, walls ceiling and roofs.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Construct, alter, repair and/or modify interior decoration and structural item such as: doors, partitions, windows, finished paneling, ceiling tiles, floor times, bathroom tiles, interior and exterior trims.
Sharpen saws, saw blades, tools, accessories used in the Carpentry Shop and Painting Unit.
Repairs or refinishes furniture, including vinyl tops and wheelchair seats.
Set up and operate woodworking machines and tools.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.
Perform routine maintenance on painting equipment such as cleaning painting guns, paint pots and hoses.
Erect materials such as ladders, planks, staging and scaffolding in order to reach higher surfaces for painting and be well versed in the proper safety procedures for use.
Work Schedule: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm, may work on weekends and Holidays

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The employee must, above all, be safety conscious in the performance of their work. They will work with ladders and scaffolds. Employee must be able to stoop, reach, kneel, crouch in confined spaces, and work in uncomfortable positions. The work requires lifting, carrying, pulling weights up to 75lbs.
Working Conditions: Most tasks will be performed indoors, with little or no ventilation. The employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. When working at job sites, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Employee is to use protective devices, such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators and gloves.
