The selectee will be located in the VA Construction Section of the Facility Management Service. The selectee will be assigned to complete tasks for the maintenance and repair of the facility, equipment, and structure.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Construction, alteration, repair and/or modification of interior decoration and structural items such as: doors, partitions, windows, finished paneling, interior and exterior trims, screens, roofs, floor covering, shelving, cabinets, picture frames, etc., Independently applies skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair and modify a wide variety of structures., Prepares accurate, complete and up to date records of actions taken and assures documentation is properly signed and coordinated in a timely manner as required by supervisor. Applies and uses the most effective procedures of the trade for the execution of routine upkeep of building walls, partitions, ceiling and equipment in general. Utilizes materials such as ladders, planks, staging, and scaffolding, well versed in the property safety procedures for use. Familiarizes self with how their activities impact VA's goals to implement sound stewardship practices that are protective of the air, water, and other natural and cultural resources - to include activities associated with proper storage, handling and disposal and/or recycling of chemicals and waste associated with their trades. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/24/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Requirements: The selectee must, above all, be safety conscious in the performance of their work. Selectee will work with ladders and scaffolds. Selectee must be able to stoop, reach, kneel, crouch in confined spaces, and work in uncomfortable positions. The work requires lifting, carrying, pulling weights up to 75lbs. Working Conditions: Most tasks will be performed indoors, with little or no ventilation. The selectee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. When working at job sites, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Selectee is to use protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves. Cross-training among disciplines is provided to increase and maintain the Construction Section construction capability. The selectee will perform/support other construction disciplines as required. The selectee will perform construction work in general; various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are used.
