About the Position: This position is located with the Martin Army Community Hospital, Directorate of Resource Management, Operations and Readiness, in Fort Moore, GA. Incumbent will serve as an armed security guard for the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference; if there are no Veterans' preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.
Duties
Monitor personnel access via both personal sight and electronic access control systems into restricted area.
Interview subjects, witnesses, and persons involved in cases for documentation.
Prepare written reports on all incidents and investigations as required.
Conduct initial inquiries for both administrative and potential criminal complaints.
Conduct periodic parcel, package, container, and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has the following medical requirements; good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice.
- This position is under the Federal Motor Operations medical requirement specified in 5 Code of Federal Regulations Section 930 Part 109; persons operating a Government owned or leased vehicle are subject to medical testing once every 4 years.
- This position may require a character investigation to secure incumbent’s honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to undergo and pass an annual medical exam of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position requires the incumbent not have any criminal convictions and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Criminal convictions, and/or loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning ad pass a annual Physical Agility Test (PAT).
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of inclement weather conditions, the incumbent is required to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing and hepatitis B vaccination.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing manual and electronic methods for monitoring personnel access into restricted areas; providing protective service work in guarding and protecting property; and performing motorized and foot patrol security checks in order to detect potential problem situations.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
