About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Plans Specialist (Strategy and Policy) for the Headquarters at US Army South, G5 Plans, in Ft. Sam Houston, TX.
Duties
Lead both military and civilian employees in the development and execution of USARSOUTH strategy, campaign plans, policy, and contingency plans (CONPLANS).
Conduct security cooperation and respond to contingencies with partner nation armies in order to strengthen regional security and counter trans-regional/transnational threat networks (T3N) in defense of the homeland.
Provide command, control, and support for Army and land operations to deter, prevent, and defeat threats and aggression against the United States, its territories, and interests.
Serve as a Senior Plans Specialist advising on all aspects of strategy, campaign planning, policy, and CONPLANS.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Selectee for this position must submit to a urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance. Failure to satisfactory complete any aspect of this process is grounds for termination.
- Travel requirement for this position is at least 25% of the time.
- In performing above duties, overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Employee may be required to wear a cell phone at all times.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1). Develop procedures to analyze operational plans ensuring mission requirements are met; 2). Analyze program efficiency and effectiveness to enhance operational readiness throughout the organization; and 3). Brief personnel regarding security cooperation strategies to deter negative impacts to missions.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).
