About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist responsible for command information, community and media relations for the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Headquarters.

Duties

Coordinate with command directors and personnel to align public affairs activities with mission-critical objectives. Monitor public opinion trends to inform and adjust communication strategies as needed. Research and gather information to develop accurate and compelling articles that highlight command achievements. Advise on web and digital media strategies to ensure effective online presence and awareness of SDDC’s operations. Develop scripts and scenarios for command events that clearly convey organizational priorities and successes. Provide training and mentorship to public affairs staff, enhancing their skills in communications and outreach. Manage the flow of information to maintain a coherent narrative across all public-facing materials and media engagements. Oversee quality control of public materials to ensure adherence to organizational standards and policies.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
• This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in Communication, Public Relations, Media Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, Political Science, Public Administration, Organizational Communication, Marketing or Marketing Communications, Social Psychology, social media and Digital Communication, or other fields related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
