Duties

As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST at the GS-1035-12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Functions as Public Affairs Specialist in the USTRANSCOM Public Affairs Office. Researches, develops, coordinates, and presents information on news media reports and community activities to local command senior leaders on public/media appearances. Develops public affairs plans, media operations strategies, and advises on other policies and programs of USTRANSCOM in relation to the public, news media, DoD, and other government departments and agencies. Represents the command with a variety of councils, boards, working groups, and panels inside and outside the command and other governmental and non-governmental, public, civic, industry, educational and entertainment organizations. Serves as senior adviser in the assigned area of responsibility.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Providing policy and program guidance, management and oversight of public affairs programs and activities. Developing and writing information materials designed to reach national audiences through the news media, wire services, radio, television and newspaper. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
