About the Position: Serves as a Public Affairs Specialist developing command information, media relations and community relations for the Headquarters, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. Through media releases, articles, speeches and community relations' activities, assures public recognition and understanding of the Command's functional programs.
Duties
Resolve congressional inquiries and analyze and recommend procedures to improve congressional special interest programs applicable to the Command.
Advise, prepare and review briefings, testimony and other materials for meetings with congressional members and staff.
Provide photographic support by photographing static or candid shots of personnel, events, equipment and work operations.
Set up and operate press centers and escort media on tours of Headquarters and other command locations.
Write scripts, scenarios and other narrative material for command events, briefings and exhibits which accurately and effectively portray command activities and accomplishments.
Solicit and edit articles to ensure consistency with command policy, correctness of grammar and spelling, and ease of reading.
Work closely with the media and public affairs counterparts to coordinate coverage of SDDC operation and exercises in an effort to improve the public's understanding of SDDC's mission.
Assist in developing, promoting, and implementing effective command information, media relations and community relations programs.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

To Qualify for the GS-12:
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes:
Drafting articles, editorials, and/or news releases to increase public's understanding of organization's programs.
Briefing news media representatives on organization's programs and/or activities.
Assisting in developing responses to public, stakeholder, and/or lawmaker inquiries.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
