You will serve as an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC in the Antenna Repair Shop (67H), COMMAND AND CONTROL SYSTEMS (CCS), ELECTRONICS REPAIR DIVISION (Code 730), WEAPONS REPAIR DEPARTMENT (TRF-700) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will serve as the Electronics Mechanic troubleshooting, analyzing, and determining repair actions required to correct malfunctions in the submarine mast and antenna systems / subsystems of TRIDENT SSBN/SSGN submarine systems. You will troubleshoot and repair towed buoy antennas, floating wire antennas malfunctioning masts, submarine emergency and whip antennas You will troubleshoot other equipment to include antenna control, radio frequencies, circuits, periscope fairings, mast bearings, and mechanical linkages to meet operational specifications. You will troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, adjust, align, test, and certify various mast and antenna electrical/electronic systems and subsystems to meet operational specifications. You will inspect for damaged components, wear, faulty alignment, and excessive play or friction in bearings. You will perform checks on electrical/electronic components and wiring, linkages, gear engagements, and other mechanisms. You will coordinate efforts with and between other trades to accomplish proper installation and alignment. You will perform electrical and mechanical tests of repaired assemblies such as drive motors, synchros, servo systems, etc., in a test stand and on board submarines to assure they meet requirements. You will disassemble the various subsystems to the component level. You will interpret drawings and schematic diagrams to repair electronic equipment. You will communicate clearly with others verbally and in writing to ensure clarity of mission and objectives. You will work independently with limited supervision to meet production schedules.

  • This is a DON Testing Designated position (TDP) and subject to Random Urinalysis/Drug testing under the provisions of the DON Drug Free Workplace (DFWP) in accordance with SECNAVINST 5510-36.
  • Position is designated as IT Level II as defined in SECNAV M-5510.30.
  • Incumbent will be required to take physical examinations in accordance with mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Standards and requirements.
  • Employee may be required to travel as the need arises for purposes such as training, attendance at meetings, and participation in work efforts at other shore activities and onboard ships and submarines at sea.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, modify, test, align, and adjust complex electronic equipment and components within integrated submarine systems and subsystems. Ability to conduct comprehensive tests and analyze equipment performance to isolate malfunctions or verify conformance to specifications, applying advanced knowledge of electronics and electrical theory. Ability to make precise adjustments, perform detailed alignments, and execute thorough testing to identify and resolve problems in equipment, ensuring it meets required specifications using a diverse range of precision test equipment. Ability to modify equipment by adding, altering, or removing components to standardize functionality, adjust purposes, or incorporate newly developed features, ensuring enhanced performance and alignment with current technological advancements.
