This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located with the Department of Clinical Support - Outpatient Pharmacy at Eglin AFB
Duties
Performs pharmacy dispensing services.
Provides information and consultant advice to the prescriber on contraindications, interactions, and side effects.
Prepares, packages, and labels prescriptions and drug orders as ordered by the pharmacist and in accordance with (IAW) pharmaceutical rules, regulations, and procedures.
Conducts interviews with patients or their caregivers for the purpose of establishing medication history.
Provides drug information to patients and caregivers and counsels patients/caregivers on proper medication use.
Performs pharmacy compounding functions.
Independently composes and prepares required quality control documents for verification and filing.
Performs all sterile solution operations with responsibility for assuring adherence to sterile procedures.
Prepares and maintains various pharmacy records, files, and administrative reports determining and modifying format and content.
Ensures strictest compliance with established standards.
Provides technical oversight to junior technicians on the preparation of drugs for dispensing and verifies accuracy of work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain valid Pharmacy Technician Certification, from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes: verifying accuracy of pharmaceutical labels; filling prescriptions; distributing pharmaceuticals; and/or utilizing pharmacy-based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or pharmaceutical firms or laboratories to issue prescriptions.
Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of:
Pharmaceutical nomenclature.
Characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals.
Pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the
Variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
