About the Position: Works under the general supervision of a supervisory pharmacist who outlines assignments in general terms, identifies priorities and provides guidance on new policies and procedures. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in Department of Defense (DoD). This position is obligated.

Duties

Provide monthly or as needed reports to Chief, Pharmacy Service or designee on waiting times, workload, and staffing needs. Coordinate with prescriber or other hospital staff on any pertinent issues or questions concerning the medication or patient. Perform all outpatient and inpatient functions with minimal supervision by a registered pharmacist. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of difficulty, the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Present introductory and recurring formal and informal training to users of Pharmacy automated medical healthcare systems and equipment to diverse healthcare specialties in the organization.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on various circumstances and may also cover employees who have been on extended leave without pay under certain circumstances.
  • During the obligation period, the position may be filled on a temporary or permanent basis.
  • The selected employee is required to sign an agreement acknowledging that (s)he is aware of the obligation and accepts the fact that (s)he may be displaced under reduction in force procedures at a later time.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Supervisory Pharmacy Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes filling prescriptions, distributing pharmaceuticals, training personnel in pharmacy setting with hospital staff or patients regarding issues and/or questions concerning the medication, and utilizing pharmacy based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09:Successful completion of at least two full years of graduate-level education or a Master's Degree in Pharmacology or a related field of study, from an accredited college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-08: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
