You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department, Assistant Nuclear Engineering and Planning Manager, Nuclear Engineering and Planning Branch (Code 2301.1) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will provide administrative and technical supervision for Nuclear Engineering Technicians. You will review work, including reports submitted by subordinates for accuracy and completeness of data, technical competence, correctness of presentation, compliance with established guidelines, and progress of work. You will review all nuclear work estimates prepared by the branch for technical adequacy and proper manday and material estimates. You will analyze and resolve administrative, financial, and scheduling problems related to department workload.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience showing expertise in the field of naval nuclear reactor plant repair, modernization, and overhaul methods. Experience planning and estimating nuclear work. Experience exercising direct, technical, and administrative supervision over personnel. Experience working well under pressure with a wide variety of people of all levels of responsibility in areas involving development and interpretation of controversial requirements and policy. Experience communicating effectively and professionally both orally and in writing. Experience adjusting planning to meet emergent or changing programs and requirements. Experience implementing knowledge of Miscellaneous Industrial Management System (MIMS) and BAIM/Project Management and computer tools used in developing Nuclear Engineering/Planning Products.
