Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:
Writing press releases, news bulletins, and other public statements and preparing and disseminating communications through traditional and emerging media channels (e.g., the internet and social media), including pitching to reporters.
Identifying and working with agency's subject matter experts to answer the media's questions and to ensure press releases and other such communications are written accurately.
Managing the subscription to a company for a media relations tool, which entails managing the database of news outlets and reporters, managing Office of Communications (OC) user accounts, ensuring training needs are met, and serving as liaison with the company for OC staff.
Employing a variety of methods and techniques in achieving communications goals such as news releases, radio and television scripts, feature articles, personal appearances, news conferences, exhibits, etc.
Setting up, attending, and monitoring press events in the area, setting up interviews with press and leadership, and responding to media inquiries via phone and e-mail.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Minimum Qualifications: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:
Writing informational materials such as press releases, news bulletins, or op-eds for news media to communicate agency's goals and mission.
Managing working relationships with reporters (e.g., responding to their inquiries, setting up Interviews with leadership or subject matter experts, and ensuring that the agency and its mission are accurately reflected in the media).
Identifying reporters in traditional print media as well as digital media, stakeholders, organizations, or other federal partners to communicate and/or collaborate with to promote the agency, the agency's products, and the agency's message.
