Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Director, Office of Communications, you will use your knowledge of and experience to: Perform critical management responsibilities, as well as technical/specialized responsibilities relating to market research; program and service design, development, distribution, and implementation; advertising and public media relations; and outcome evaluation. Develop policy related to public awareness, public education, and public information dissemination to meet the goals of a comprehensive communications relationship with the behavioral health field, the general public, special interest and stakeholder groups and the media. Serves as SAMHSA's senior spokesperson for communicating the agency's programs and policies, often of a sensitive and complex nature, to the national trade, print and broadcast media. Prepares or directs the preparation of major policy speeches and statements for presentation by the Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use and other high level SAMHSA officials who command widespread professional and public attention and influence professional and public opinion regarding SAMHSA policies and programs.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Minimum Qualifications: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following: Utilizing a wide range of proposed publications, audio-visual projects, internet and blog posting to ensure consistency with messaging. Developing a public information system for handling emergency and short turn around requests for information programs, policies, and activities. Utilizing state-of-the-art communication technologies, such as social media, to communicate information to a wide range of audiences. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
