You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/GEOPHYSICIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/MATHEMATICIAN in the NAVAL OCEANOGRAPHIC OFFICE, OFFICE OF THE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR (0T) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will provide technical and operational advice and consultation on obtaining and analyzing production metrics for use in decision making, workflow tracking, and priority ranking.
You will provide guidance on resource allocation based on production metrics and resource demand.
You will coordinate, evaluate, and provide counsel on strategic initiatives and new technologies that will maximize the efficiency of the organization.
You will plan, organize, coordinate and direct a wide range of dynamic and complex organizational elements for use in instructions, point papers, policy guides, special assessments, and evaluations, management reviews, staff studies and proposals.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Mastery experience of advanced concepts, theory, principles and practices of oceanography, geophysics, hydrography, physics, acoustics and/or geology.
Experience of NAVOCEANO scientific programs and requirements.
Experience in providing technical guidance/oversight to Divisions within the Department.
Experience in using a high degree of originality in planning and executing approaches to problem solutions by way of a thorough review of existing methods, definition of problem areas, and selection of the appropriate geophysical, acoustic and oceanographic methodology.
Experience with a wide variety to remote sensing and image analyses applications for the analysis of acoustic, geophysical, bathymetric, and oceanographic data.
Experience in providing scientific and technical advice, guidance, and coordination regarding the various technical projects underway within the Organization.
Experience in resolving technical difficulties requiring professional scientific judgement which are referred from the Department and providing technical advice and assistance on subjects involving acoustics, geophysics, and navigation to other Office components, other Government organizations/agencies and contractors.

1301 - Physical Science
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
1313 - Geophysics
- Degree: that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).
or
- Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
1360 - Oceanography
Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
1520 - Mathematics
- Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
or
- Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
