The primary purpose of this position is: work as center supervisor and base systems administrator to monitor the Local and Wide Area Network, including the planning, analysis, acquisition, design, development, implementation, quality assurance, configuration, installation, integration, maintenance testing, operational integrity, and/or management of networked systems
Duties
Performs supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Administers the base Local Area Network (LAN).
Conducts problem analysis to identify trends, ineffective practices or procedures, and equipment shortcomings.
Plans for current and future technology integration and works issues for compatibility and standardization based on current and projected customer needs.
Ensures the rigorous application of information security and assurance policies in the delivery of network
services.

- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on a military or commercial aircraft.
- Recall to duty and overtime may be a requirement of this position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes; Application of IT network systems design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements. Utilization of the organization's network architecture, topology, and protocols sufficient to plan, design, develop, and integrate network systems and security plans and procedures consistent with existing or planned network infrastructures.

Education Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements.
2. Knowledge of the network architecture, topology, protocols, and security requirements typically found at the base level.
3. Knowledge of configuration management concepts and practices to develop and implement plans for LANs and WANs.
4. Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems.
5. Ability to analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective.
6. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.
7. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
