About the Position: Performs as a Physical Security Specialist for the Installation. Responsible for physical security plans, procedures, inspections and key control. Provides guidance/assistance to Commanders, supervisors and employees on security systems, physical protection devices, Visitor Control Center and personnel access controls.
Duties
Conduct briefings concerning physical security to all levels of the organization.
Conduct security exercises reducing installation vulnerabilities to threats.
Conduct physical security inspections of selected mission areas, activities, and facilities.
Provide technical guidance to enhance the physical security process.
Monitor the key control system, mobility badge system and security exchange badge system to ensure regulatory compliance.
Prepare evaluation reports to substantiate findings and recommendations for corrective action.
Ensure serious/minor incident reports are reported to higher headquarters in a timely manner.
Ensure all protocols are followed for daily operations to include key control.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- Completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Administering and managing physical security programs to provide guidance and recommendations; 2) Conducts physical security inspections and provides appropriate corrective action for identified deficiencies; 3) Programs annual and follow-up surveys of sensitive areas to make recommendations such as: fences, lights, alarms etc.; 4) Provides corrective recommendations to physical security to protect personnel, equipment, and property and 5) Provides guidance on security systems and/or personnel access controls to leadership to prevent unauthorized access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: security, criminal justice etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
