You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the COMBAT SYSTEMS DIVISION, ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. ***TEMPORARY PROMOTION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT***

Duties

You will plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Horizontal Launching Branch. You will provide technical and administrative supervision over a core team of civilian employees and contractors of diverse disciplines, such as engineers and engineering technicians. You will plan and schedule work to be accomplished by subordinates. You will prepare performance standards and evaluate performance of subordinates. You will support Equal Employment Opportunity and other management programs. You will serve as the liaison for all horizontal launching combat systems issues for the shipyard.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 general principles of ethical conduct at 5 cfr 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with submarine weapons systems, operating principles, component functions and testing requirements pertaining to mechanical systems. Experience directing the planning, installation, and testing of equipment and systems involved during a ship's overhaul period. Experience performing supervisory duties, such as planning work, preparing schedules, assigning work, resolving complaints and grievances. Experience in negotiating projects with managers and ship force support to gain approval and testing authority. Experience providing technical and administrative supervision over branch.
