About the Position: Serves as Special Assistant to the Deputy to the Commanding General (DtCG) of U.S. Army North (USARNORTH), a Staff Principal Senior Executive Service (SES)-level executive. Based on a detailed understanding of the views and policies of the DtCG and USARNORTH, provides expert guidance and assistance in the management of complex projects, studies, and action items.
Duties
Assist the Deputy to the Commanding General (DtCG) and transmits guidance and decisions to the appropriate staff elements.
Provide administrative program direction to various subordinate commanders, directors and their staffs.
Initiates or recommends actions to improve operations of the command.
The incumbent independently plans and accomplishes the work for which responsible to include tasking subordinates with phases of projects and coordinating all aspects of the work.
Identifies the need for special projects and initiates milestones and goals.
Research and determines or recommends appropriate actions or interpretation of issues that impact organization, installation, command, or agency.
Represents the Command on special boards, panels, and committees.
Attends and organizes meetings, conferences, and seminars to assemble tasking and/or questions, coordinates appropriate replies and ensures positive communications are maintained between elements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- A probationary period maybe required.
- A Secret Security Clearance is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) analyze interrelated issues of effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity affecting major programs of the organization. 2) Evaluate long and short-range projects, develop and present recommendations to especially broad, important, and severe management issues; 3) communicate with senior level leaders in order to provide advice on difficult problems, conducts special studies, and proposes options and alternatives representing the command, or equivalent organization.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
