This position is open to Bureau of Reclamation current permanent employees and employees that meet Land Management Authority.
Duty Location: Pleasant Grove, UT
Duties
This position is part of the Engineering Equipment Team within the Construction Services Group, Field Engineering Division, at the Provo Area Office, Provo, UT. The Duty Station is Pleasant Grove, UT. The selectee will be responsible for operating and transporting various types of heavy equipment across uneven, rough terrains, and steep grades. Additionally, the role includes performing maintenance on assigned heavy equipment both on-site and in a garage.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Operate heavy equipment near buildings, towers, trees, drop-offs, waterlines, rocks and other obstacles.
Follow written instructions, maintenance standards, operating procedures, and adhere to safety practices.
Operate various types of heavy equipment and attachments, including but not limited to:
Caterpillar tractors
Excavators of all sizes
Off-road articulated dump trucks
Front end loaders of all sizes
Skid steers
Road graders
Snowplowing equipment
Semi-truck trailer
Move earth on diverse terrains such as mountains, steep slopes, graded curves, shoulders, rocky or soft ground, hilly forests, and other rough surfaces.
Qualifications
To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required. However, your resume must demonstrate sufficient experience to support the SCREEN-OUT element, providing your ability to perform the duties of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) operating and transporting different types of heavy equipment in all terrain environments; (2) maintaining and/or repairing roads, ditches, shoulders, or roadbeds; (3) conducting equipment and/or motor vehicle routine/minor preventive maintenance, repairs, and/or safety inspections; and 4) interpreting OSHA standards and an organization's safety regulations in order to work in a safe manner.
SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs operation of vehicles, and a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.

Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Due to the special requirements needed in working on hazardous waste sites, the operator must meet the physical requirements for each of the sites.
Work Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forested areas. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. He is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. The operator must pay close attention to the equipment, attachments, and terrain. Work is also performed on various hazardous waste sites requiring the proper training associated in performance of work on the identified sites.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
