Duties

As Supervisor of the Engineering Equipment Team, the incumbent directs the work of engineering equipment operators. Plan and coordinate the work on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to satisfy the needs of Engineering. Direct where the work will be performed. Deploy workers into effective crews making maximum utilization of employees and equipment. Regularly visits the work site to observe the work progress and to discuss special problems and needs Maintain Lines of communications with all members of the Team. Give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Take necessary follow-up action on specific safety and health problems with in the staff. Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the incumbent when operating equipment, in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of control to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Project sites overseen by the incumbent are often in remote locations requiring significant physical effort to access, including hiking up steep grades, riding horseback for extended periods, and operating ATVs. Onsite oversight requires climbing, bending, and reaching. Working Conditions: Project sites are located in numerous locations in Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, California, Colorado, and other western states. Work is performed in all types of weather, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forested areas. The incumbent is exposed to hazardous work environments on construction sites involving extremely difficult terrain, ever-changing weather conditions, and constantly moving heavy equipment. Some projects are in remote locations with limited access (roadless wilderness areas) that can only be accessed by horseback. Work is often performed in cooperation with other agencies with unknown levels of experience and expertise, presenting unpredictable working hazards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 12/20/2023.
