About the position: Outdoor Recreation Aquatics Center, Kirtland AFB, NM.
This position will be filled as a Flexible employment category. Flexible employment category guarantees 00 hrs/week (may work up to 40 hrs/wk).
Position requires current Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and Adult and Child CPR Certifications, and obtain a Blood Born Pathogen certification. Previous swimming, coaching, and lifeguarding experience is preferred. Position may include weekends, evenings, and nights.
Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as lead lifeguard leader over same and lower grade pool employees. Assist other employees in their duties. Distributes and monitors workload among employees. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques. Resolves simple complaints among employees and refers formal complaints to supervisor. Ensures regulations, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Assists in the education and on the job training of fellow co-workers. Makes available written instructions regulations, policies, and other reference materials. Overseas collection of daily income. Prepares and consolidates daily receipts and reports. Makes daily deposits. Monitors customers to ensure that no unauthorized activity takes place and that all pool rules and regulations are adhered to. Enforces general rules of good conducts and expels patrons whose conduct constitutes a hazard or nuisance. Acts promptly to rescue and resuscitate near-drowning victims. Rescues such personnel using Red Cross approved techniques and call 911. Watches swimmers for indication of fatigue or ill health and insures all safety and sanitary precautions are met. Disseminates information to patrons regarding hours of operation, Air Force regulations pool rules, safety precautions, etc. Ensures authorized entry into pool area by checking pool passes, collecting fees, and controlling sign-in rosters. Participates in general maintenance and repairs of pools and facilities. Conducts regular water quality tests. Reports unsatisfactory safety, health, and maintenance conditions to appropriate authorities. Promotes good customer relations through positive interaction with pool patrons while enforcing rules and regulations, answering questions and addressing customer complaints. Teaches swimming lessons to adults and children. Participates with Youth Summer Program participants and other swimming programs as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete Childcare Background Checks and Investigation (CNACI and State Checks) with favorable results.
- Position requires current Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and Adult and Child CPR Certifications, and obtain a Blood Born Pathogen certification.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to lift/carry 50 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds.
- This position requires the incumbent to be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Must possess knowledge of pool operations and programs.
Skill in written and oral communications, and simple arithmetic to perform basic calculations relating to daily income and deposits required.
Must possess the degree of physical fitness required to rescue near-drowning victims and to demonstrate and participate in program activities.
Must be available to work weekends, evenings, split shifts, and other unusual hours when required.
Demonstrated team leadership experience or ability is highly desirable.
Must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
