The primary purpose of this position is to provide support and assistance for the smooth operation of the Fitness Center Program to include customer service, monitoring customer entry, maintaining facility requirements in fire, safety, health and cleanliness, initiating and maintaining files, and assisting manager on duty and scheduling tasks.
Duties
Provide customer service to patrons and performs Manager on Duty tasks.
Maintain equipment and facilities.
Organizes, manages, maintains intramural programs as well as athletic fields.

- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which
may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/locationl Travel may include overnight stays.
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate valid driver’s license is required for the position.
- Certificate in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. (CONT'D)

- (CONT'D) Also, bending, stooping, lifting of moderately heavy items, and walking and standing for long periods may be required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series 0189.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes providing support and assistance to management in fitness centers by administering fitness and sports programs and special events/programs.
OR
EDUCATION: Successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience above may be used to qualify for this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Basic knowledge of a standardized body of rules, procedures and operations related to one or more indoor/outdoor recreation functions in order to perform the required activities in a fitness and sporrs environment.
General knowledge of fitness equipment set up, adjustment, operating procedures, and required safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as desktop computer, copiers, fax machines and office automation systems to perform a substantial range of office automation support, along with the knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation and commonly used specialized terminology to prepare material correctly
Skill in administering fitness testing and FIP Classes.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to follow established safety standards and procedures.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
