This position is located within the Facilities Management Service line at the main campus of the Kansas City VA Medical Center. The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures and utilities through work order requests assigned by the supervisor of the section.

Incumbent serves as a Maintenance Worker at the Kansas City Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Performs demolition, renovation and construction of structures and utilities for which Engineering Service is responsible throughout the Medical Center. Although the position is not at the journeyman level, incumbent trains to perform at a level which approaches that expected of a journeyman. Incumbent accomplishes assignments in all categories of engineering work (i.e. electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, mechanical, air conditioning, laboring and painting). Incumbent accomplishes almost any type of engineering assignment except those of a complex nature.
Incumbent is constantly vigilant in observing equipment, structural and utility defects, reporting same by initiating work requests or by word of mouth. Learns to properly interpret and use drawings, prints and manuals for minor installations and repairs of equipment. Some interpretations will require the assistance of a journeyman. Must be able to determine supply and material needs and properly submit purchase requests for same. Uses many of the hand and power tools and test instruments associated with the engineering trades and work assignments
Work Schedule: M-F 6:30am-4:30PM.

Physical Requirements: Work may require lifting in excess of 75 lbs. This type of lifting could be preformed for several days in succession. The duration should not be over long periods of time but rather to move or assist with the moving of items from one location to another.
