The Maintenance Mechanic Leader is assigned to the Facilities Management service line of the Kansas City VAMC.

Incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of installation, modification of building service equipment and building structure.
Incumbent must have the ability to work from blueprints, schematics, drawings, manuals, work orders, etc. Incumbent must have ability to properly utilize tools of the trade.
The incumbent must have the ability to determine the appropriate course of action under extraordinary conditions.
Incumbent must also be able to utilize this understanding in assisting others involved in construction and renovation.
Incumbent must have ability to plan, coordinate and direct the work of personnel assigned to their area.
The incumbent is responsible to schedule all training for shop employees and to maintain individual training records for shop employees according to policy and procedures.
Incumbent will maintain and provide a current training and leave roster to the Maintenance Mechanic (Construction Crew) Supervisor. Leave requests must be coordinated with employees to avoid disruption in work conditions.
Incumbent will make recommendations as to the approval of leave on an individual and scheduled basis to the Supervisor.
Incumbent works closely with all new installations, in-house projects, inspection and review of project blueprints, and review of new equipment and material submitted by vendors.
Incumbent will assume additional responsibilities and duties as shop or Medical Center needs dictate or at the discretion of the Maintenance Mechanic (Construction Crew) Supervisor or Engineering Management.
Incumbent performs journeyman level work in carpentry, pipefitting, plumbing, and HVAC necessary for building construction and renovation at the Kansas City VA Medical Center.
Incumbent is responsible for passing information on to other workers for instruction received from the supervisor, for getting work started, and leading group to completion.
Incumbent is knowledgeable of and ensures that all applicable regulatory procedures, practices and standards are maintained according to policy.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent very often lifts weights of approximately 45 lbs. and at times 75 to 100 lbs. The work requires standing, stooping, kneeling and climbing.
