You will serve as a SECRETARY (OA) in the ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. You will report directly to the Engineering and Planning Department Head.
Duties
You will prepare and maintain accurate time and attendance records.
You will maintain and accurately update file systems to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
You will route calls and visitors based upon knowledge of programs and operations.
You will thoroughly and accurately screen correspondence and material to identify items which need to be brought to the attention of the supervisor, referred to appropriate staff, rerouted to other organizations, or handled personally.
You will accurately establish and update office procedures.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience as a qualified typist.
Experience with computer software to produce a variety of reports, charts, graphs, and other required materials.
Experience serving as the principal office assistant, performing administrative and clerical duties in support of the work of a complex organization, where there is a system of formal internal procedures and administrative controls.
Experience with Navy correspondence formatting standards.
Experience with spreadsheets, database management systems, and communications are required.
