You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER in the PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
Duties
You will Interpret specifications (e.g., technical manuals, process standards, drawings, blueprints) to repair, rebuild, or modify vehicles and heavy mobile
equipment.
You will keep journey level workers supplied with tools and work materials as instructed.
You will determine repairs, adjustments, and modifications needed for heavy mobile equipment
You will identify specialized tools (e.g., torque wrench, impact wrench, electric and pneumatic drill, special puller, grinder, jack, crane, hoist, hydraulic
drill press) needed to repair heavy mobile equipment and vehicles.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Inspects and replaces as necessary such parts as pistons, piston rings, valves, bearings, wrist pins, gaskets and cylinder liners. Repair governors on diesel and gas engines, repair and adjust injection pumps, carburetors, ignition systems, cleaning, adjusting, repairing and replacing such items as needed, troubleshooting of all systems and subsystems. Replaces fuel pumps, injection pumps, spark plugs, distributors, points and injectors. Repairs generators and starting motors, adjusting voltage, replacing switches, batteries and wiring. Overhauls transmissions, carburetors and engines, clutches, differentials, steering assembly and front ends. Overhauls hydraulic and air brake systems. Completely overhauls and rebuild specialized units such as fuel refueling and defueling systems, and turbochargers and superchargers. Inspects, repairs and replaces parts on fire pumps, etc. Inspects and repairs power takeoff and allied equipment installed on trucks. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed
