You will serve as a Security Specialist responsible for developing investigative security measures designed to safeguard personnel, prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, material, and information against espionage, sabotage, damage, loss, or theft. You will assist in the review and development of new or proposed security policies, procedures, and guidelines for use by NASA employees and contractors. You will also serve as a Special Agent.
Duties
Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Serves as a security specialist performing duties associated with the Center's Physical Security Program assisting the Physical Security, Facility Security, Anti-Terrorism, and Critical Infrastructure Assurance programs as required.
Prepares, revises, coordinates, implements, and advises on security strategic program development, planning, and policies across the Center.
Advises and provides counsel to Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) employees regarding security policies, procedures, and directives of the agency.
Establishes, revises, or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the staff as necessary to eliminate problems or barriers to mission accomplishment.
Serves as Task Monitor for multiple contracts and establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with contract support staff.
Provides Center physical security policy development and maintenance for physical protection of facilities, personnel, classified information and/or other sensitive materials/resources or processes.
Serves as an armed NASA Special Agent with Federal Arrest Authority.

Requirements

- If selected, you must be able to obtain and maintain the following license/certification: Federal Arrest Authority.
- If selected, you must be able to meet the criteria for use of a firearm in accordance with the Federal Arrest Authority.
- If selected, you must be able to meet the standard and training qualifications in strict compliance with 14 CFR, Chapter V, Part 1203b.103, Security Programs Arrest Authority, and Use of Force by NASA Security Force Personnel.
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-09 level, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level:
Performing duties associated with a physical security program;
Reviewing policy and procedures to assist in eliminating problems or barriers to mission accomplishment; and
Assisting with physical security such as physical protection of facilities, personnel, classified information and/or other sensitive materials/resources.
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field
OR
c) Completed 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field
OR
d) LL. B or J.D, if related
OR
e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above
To qualify for GS-11, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level:
Assisting with physical security policy development and maintenance;
Reviewing policy, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the staff to assist in eliminating problems or barriers to mission accomplishment; and
Providing physical security to facilities, personnel, classified information, and/or other sensitive materials/resources.
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field
OR
c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field
OR
d) LL.M., if related
OR
e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above
