This position is located in Administrative Appeals Office. As a Supervisory Appellate Examination Officer, you will guide the team to process all appeals, motions, and certifications that arrive at the Administrative Appeals Office.

Duties

Assigns, directs, and reviews the technical and administrative work of a staff of GS-9/11/12 appellate examination officers. Performs the full range of supervisory responsibilities, e.g. authorizes requests for leave and evaluates employee performance; provides guidance in policy matters and to resolve technical issues and/or problems of a complex or novel nature. Formulates and develops policies and procedures governing the activities of the branch; develops and implements work plans and programs to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the branch. Analyzes process flows to determine where efficiencies can be gained. Devises new methodologies, processes, or procedures for accomplishing work to enhance organizational performance. Develops and maintains templates for non-merits determinations to include clearance by the Office of the Chief Counsel, as necessary. Ensures staff is kept informed of policy decisions that might affect the parameters set for their everyday activities of case intake and triage, security checks, and non-merits determinations. Maintains standard operating procedures for all areas within incumbent’s purview. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining updated security check guidance, ensuring such guidance is followed by subordinates and answering questions.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/16/2024. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/16/2024. GS-12: You qualify at the GS-12 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Reviewing immigration forms to determine if all essential elements are complete. Managing multiple workload activities to ensure they are all completed in a timely manner. Creating standard operating procedures to enhance efficiency in a team's workload. Conducting USCIS security checks (i.e., TECS).
