About the Position: This position is located within the Medical Readiness Command (MRC) West, U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) advisor in the G-3/5/7, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The primary purpose of this position is to perform duties as a Plans and Operations Specialist in the management of day-to-day medical plans, operations, training and readiness of MRC.
Duties
Provides advice to management of day-to-day medical plans, operations, training and readiness of the Command by oral and written communication.
Represents the major command within the structure and community activities in discussing mission requirements, support, and operational needs.
Utilizes broad technical knowledge of medical operational, readiness, and training requirements, short- and long-range planning develop and implement all phases of the command's medical operations, training and readiness programs.
Leads, conducts or participates in complex management studies and reviews with wide or significant effect upon organizational structure operations.
Responsible for defining, planning, managing, and drafting sections of national contingency plans, operations plans, functional plans, and related documents dealing with Army and Joint requirements in support of regional missions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Tier 3, Secret security clearance.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) coordinating operations and contingency plans; 2) mobilization/demobilization and deployment planning; 3) conducting plans/operations assessment; AND compiling data and briefing management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
