This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Assist other carpenters in Carpenter Shop performing a full range of carpenter duties.
Duties
Measures and cuts materials to the required lengths and dimensions.
Fabricates and installs frames or casings for windows, doors, transoms, and ventilators; shelves, counters, plywood duct-work, bulletin boards, cabinets, bookcases, and related features having built-in characteristics.
Insures that installed components are level and accurately aligned with other parts of the structure.
Trims, mortises, drills and prepares items for attachment of hardware.
Installs rafters, studs, sills, plates, braces, joists, floors, sub-floors, panels (including sheetrock, plywood, and veneers), siding sheathing, roofing, building paper, insulating materials, door and window frames, and interior and exterior trim.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- The duties of this position required the incumbent to obtain and maintain any installation license and/or DOD requirement for the type vehicle being operated.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Carpentry Worker (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. - I have the ability to perform common Carpenter duties as to measures and cuts materials. I can perform tasks such as simple framing and minimal roof repairs. Able to safely use a variety of carpentry tools, including hammers, handsaws, belt sanders, and power saws. I am able select the correct application devices such as brush, roller, or spray gun. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT - The work requires standing, climbing, reaching and lifting materials up to 10 pounds and occasionally as much as 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS - Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in buildings, adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. Employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels, sawdust, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment when performing work in the shop area. Work at job sites exposes employee to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and arounds caffolds and ladders. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises and contusions. May be required to work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics, which may be dusty and dirty. Protective devices such as, but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, and safety shoes may be required.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
