About the Position: This position is with the U.S Army Sustainment Command, Joint Personal Property Shipping Office-Northwest, Customer Service Division, located in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

Provide advice and information to military personnel, Department of Defense civilian personnel. and/or their dependents regarding receipt of member's personal property. Arrange for property to be released for shipment. Handle the shipment, receipt, and storage of personal property and/or household goods. Receive and/or review advance shipping documents to determine appropriate arrangement and disposition. Review applications to move property from residence and/or non-temporary storage. Assist with carrier packing or storage issues and/or performs inspections as needed. Maintain control files on storage lots by dates of placement, expiration and/or invoice due date.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Providing assistance and/or advice to property owners regarding the shipment of personal property; 2.) Maintaining shipping records or documentation to ensure accuracy and/or completeness; or 3.) Providing knowledge of transportation automated systems to facilitate the movement of goods. -OR- Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Coordinating and/or managing transportation arrangements for the shipment of personal property and/or household goods; 2.) Maintaining and/or updating transportation records using automated systems to ensure accuracy and/or compliance; and 3.) Preparing and/or processing transportation documents such as bills of lading, shipping orders, and/or customs forms. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). -OR- Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Reviewing and/or processing requests for transportation services; 2.) Utilizing various software and/or systems to manage transportation data, generate reports, and/or perform other administrative tasks; and 3.) Assisting Customers with inquiries and/or providing information about transportation services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. At this level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement (GS-04): Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. Time in Grade Requirement (GS-05): Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. Time in Grade Requirement (GS-06): Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
