This position is located at the Edward Hines, Jr VA Hospital, Hines, Illinois. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as an Office of Community (OCC) Coordinator. The position functions as a non licensed member of clinical care team comprised of Registered Nurse Care Managers, Primary Care and/or Specialty Care Physicians, Pharmacists, Social Workers, Dieticians, Behavioral Health Specialists, etc. who provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care.

Duties

The incumbent provides administrative and clinical care coordination support to clinicians and other administrative and professional staff for purposes of coordinating Non-VA medical care for veterans when inpatient and outpatient, and their VA provider has deemed such care necessary. Responsible for generating authorizations for pre-authorized medical care. Liaison between the veteran and the vendors with regard to Community Care and VA clinical services and/or primary care services. Obtains requested medical records including reports, x rays, labs and any pertinent information required to complete the Office of Community Care (OCC) coordination consult in CPRS. Ensures all necessary components and documentation are distributed to appropriate services at the private institution where service will be provided. Collaborate with OCC nurse to prioritize requested procedure based on urgency (stat and routine), combat veteran status and compensation and pension exams as dictated by Office of Community Care coordination policy. Responsible for the coordination of all administrative information between the professional staff and the patient. Provides advisory and technical assistance to veterans and staff in answering questions related to OCC processes. Appropriately processes authorizations based on administrative eligibility Performs standard assignments involving different and unrelated processes, complexity, methods in varying sequence. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/09/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. General Experience:Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of specialized experience is: 6 month of clerical or office experience 6 month of administrative or customer service work Ability to operate computerized systems in order to enter, modify, and retrieve patient information. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
