You will serve as a LEAD MATERIAL SUPPORT TECHNICIAN in the Nuclear Material Industrial Section of the Nuclear Material Support Branch, Nuclear Material Management Division, Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will direct, guide, assist, and lead subordinate Material Support Technicians in performing a wide variety of technical support work for nuclear and nuclear related material. You will provide overall guidance and on the job training as needed. You will distribute and balance the workload, assure time accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that employees have enough work to keep busy. You will assess material intended for nuclear end use and ensure that the material is acceptable and that the technical receipt inspection has been performed as required. You will ensure accurate and timely processing of computer transactions for the receipt, inspection, storage, issue, and disposal of material.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing knowledge of the policies and procedures applicable to inventory management and other phases of material support, specifically support activity interfaces; Experience with NPM chapters related to the processing, inspection, and repair of both non-radiological and radiological SMIC components; Experience providing knowledge of related nuclear material control regulations ; Experience providing knowledge of the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department and shipyard organizational structure and procedures, particularly those related to engineering, inspection, expediting, production, and shipping; Experience providing knowledge of security regulations relating to the safeguarding and handling of classified information and material; Experience providing knowledge of ADP techniques and capabilities, and the ability to apply these techniques; Experience demonstrating outstanding communication both written and oral in order to convey direction or work, material status' to customers, and ability to notify supervision of issues.
