You will serve as a ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT ASSISTANT (OA) in the Lifting and Handling Department, Code 700, of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will provide practical and technical office administration functions which may include obtaining funds, reporting requirements and systems, procurement of office equipment and supplies, and office automation functions using various systems. You will prepare narratives, charts, graphs, and handouts for briefings and presentations. You will independently researches, gathers, analyzes, and consolidates data for recurring and special reports. You will plan and design records maintenance systems, utilizing automated systems to the maximum extent possible. you will review highly sensitive information to include security and payroll that may range from routine to complex.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience preparing narratives, charts, graphs, and handouts for briefings and presentations. Experience developing and maintain a complete filing system on policy, administrative and departmental operational subject matters. Experience providing administrative assistance and coordinating the work of the office with others in accordance with priorities, commitments, policies, and program goals. Experience compiling, consolidating, and summarizing budgetary data from source documents, such as supply orders, purchase orders, accounting records, work reports, payroll records for use in preparing estimates and providing statistical data as required. Experience reviewing outgoing correspondence for completeness, clarity of expression, adherence to shipyard instruction and office policy, attachment of enclosure, proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and identifies to the writer and concerns with departmental policy. Experience scheduling new appointments based on knowledge of the regular scheduled meetings and commitments, and provides any available background information on the subject. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
