You will serve as a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the ELECTRICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will supervise subordinates performing various tasks in the shop and aboard vessels and crafts assigned for overhaul and repair. You will plan the sequence of operations and work steps for groups of employees supervised. You will plan the division of workload among employees based on capabilities and availability of employees, materials, and equipment. You will estimate and requisition tools, materials, and equipment needed and determine most efficient use. You will inspect work in progress and upon completion to assure efficiency, economy, and safety of operation. You will fully support the Equal Employment Opportunity Program.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 general principles of ethical conduct at 5 cfr 2635.101.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Supervising electrical and electronic work operations to meet established project deadlines. Conducting quality checks or inspections of electronic equipment or products to determine quality, condition, or overall appearance. Setting priorities and coordinating the availability of equipment for routine maintenance. Inspecting work areas to check for removal of debris and scrap; movement of storage materials, and placement of movable tools and equipment. Interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and local procedures.
