This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Serves as a Data Scientist for the US ARMY AVIATION AND MISSILE COMMAND OFFICE OF THE COMMANDER REDSTONE ARSENAL, AL.

Duties

The Data Scientist is responsible for performing duties involving the identification of methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings from structured and unstructured data sets. Works on unique and complex tasks requiring unconventional approaches and applying and adapting sophisticated analytical techniques. Conducts scientific investigative studies involving the development or application of methodologies that extend beyond the present state of the art or involve and require highly original and imaginative approaches. Support analyses in one or more of the following areas: programming skills; machine learning; data architecture; data visualization; modeling and simulations; technology support; business and resource analysis. Serves as a Data Scientist using data science and analytics to plan, conduct, and present complex analyses related to supply chain planning and execution.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position require TDY up to 10% at the time.
• This position has a Data Analytics requirement. You must meet all requirements for Data Analytics level three (3) certification within 24 months of being placed on the position.

Basic Requirements: A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. Specialized experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which includes 1) creating and implementing data collection and analysis tools while utilizing computer programming language; 2) Utilizing software applications and software languages such as (PowerBI, Tableau, Python, oracle and other data analytics tool)s to generate reports or data visualizations that convey data to technical and non-technical audiences; 3) collaborating with internal or external stakeholders to review specialized data and recommend solutions.
