About the Position: Serves as a Lead Data Scientist for the Engineering and Support Center (HNC), Army Corps of Engineering. The Lead Data Scientist is responsible for performing duties involving the identification of methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings from structured and unstructured data sets.
Duties
Works on unique and complex tasks requiring unconventional approaches and applying and adapting sophisticated analytical techniques.
Conducts scientific investigative studies involving the development or application of methodologies that extend beyond the present state of the art or involve and require highly original and imaginative approaches.
Develops plans, policies, and procedures for data science related matters.
Communicate team assignments, actionable events, milestones, issues under review, and deadlines to ensure command's strategic plan is accomplished and the mission, vision and values are maintained.
Support analyses in one or more of the following areas: programming skills; machine learning; data architecture; data visualization; modeling and simulations; technology support; business and resource analysis.

Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade which includes: 1) utilization of Microsoft Automate; PowerBI, Tableau, Python, Structured Query Language (SQL), SAS, Oracle, machine learning methods, and other data analytics tools, 2) assess and extract information from historical datasets; creates appropriate statistical, algorithmic, mining, forecasting, predictive, and visualization techniques; 3) collect, review, clean, and prepare data for analysis.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
