About the Position: Serves as the Chief, USARNORTH Commander's Initiatives Group (CIG). The CIG prepares speeches, briefings, correspondence, congressional testimony, and independent analysis and review of special subjects and staff products for the Commander, Army Service Component Command to Northern Command (USARNORTH).

Duties

Interprets and develops guidance for the identification, research, analysis, and strategy concept for issues and initiatives development and resolution. Formulates and recommends strategy for issues, initiatives, and ideas that are identified, directed, collected, or anticipated in contemporary and future environments. Provides mechanisms for collection of issues and initiatives across a broad spectrum of functional areas with emphasis on the fiscal, force modernization and evolving role of USARNORTH, Maintain an active dialog with the Legislative Affairs Office of the Department of the Army, all Service Departments and the Department of Defense, as well as other governmental agencies. Develops actions and plans for the Command's Congressional activities. Serves as USARNORTH's Congressional Liaison representative for strategic communications (minus Congressional inquiries). Maintains Congressional on-line databases, publications, and library on Congressional information and activities with focus on the current fiscal and future environments. Conduct sensitive face-to-face sessions with key staffs within the Department of the Army to cultivate the current and future interest of USARNORTH. Serves as the Force Manager for USARNORTH. Ensures that all Force Management functions are carefully orchestrated and integrated throughout USARNORTH.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Will be required to deploy within the NORTHCOM AOR on short notice (in under 24 hours) by multiple means.
  • In performing above duties, overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Incumbent will be expected to function in adverse climatic conditions and under intense physical and mental stress.
  • Must be capable, upon completion of training, of unassisted donning of mission oriented protective posture (MOPP) mask, clothing and equipment, or equivalent clothing and protective equipment.
  • Must be able to wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) or clothing such as boots, goggles, gloves, chemical mask and other safety equipment as required.
  • As a pre-condition of employment, any and all incumbents of this position must pass a physical examination.
  • Participation in the DOD/DA Immunization program to include live vaccinations as required by DOD/DA policy.
  • Employees may be required to wear an electronic pager and maintain a working telephone at all times.
  • Selectee for this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain/hold a Top Secret security clearance. Failure to satisfactory complete any aspect of this process is grounds for termination.
  • TDY up to 40% maybe required for travel.
  • A supervisory probationary period maybe required.
