About the Position: This position will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist with the Public Affairs Office, US Army Installation Command located at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Duties
Release information about the installation's activities, achievements and events to the general public through press, radio, and television outlets serving Fort Sill and regional geographic area.
Act as official spokesman for the command.
Coordinate, write, adapt, and edit news stories and features on a variety of Fort Sill activities for dissemination to local, area, and national news media through newspapers, wire services, magazines, radio, and television.
Escort visiting media representatives and assist them in gathering information about Fort Sill.
Participate in meetings and conferences with representatives of appropriate planning committees to arrange for publicity of such activities as open houses, briefings, guided tours, parades, and special events.
Plan and implement the Command Information Program.
Review and edit command information material for fact sheets, post newspaper, daily bulletin, closed-circuit television, and commercial radio.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months and may be made permanent without further competition.
- A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Convey information, orally and in writing, using a variety of presentation methods. 2) Write content such as articles, fact sheets and speeches for print, video and on-line formats. 3) Communicate with various external and internal public including media. 4) Provide counsel to leaders on potential media and public implications of programs or events. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Relations, International Relations, Communication, Journalism or English and Literature. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Experience and Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Public Relations, International Relations, Communication, Journalism or English and Literature. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Position may be filled as a Term appointment NTE 13 Months. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of six years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond 6 six years, but not more than 8 years.
**NOTE - A current Army employee with personal competitive status accepts a time-limited appointment (such as term or temporary appointment), the Army employee forfeits their permanent status and becomes subject to the provisions of the term or temporary appointment.
**Permanent employees who accept time-limited appointments will not have placement rights to the previously held permanent position at the end of the time-limited appointment. Employees who accept such time-limited appointment opportunities will be required to sign a statement of understanding.
