You will serve as a Materials Handler of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR PUGET SOUND.

Duties

You will perform routine warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, and issuing and staging/kitting material (may handle hazardous and/or explosive materials). You will receive and stow materials and supplies in designated storage areas, ensuring that materials are segregated by hazard types with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) attached as required. You will research and report damaged goods or shipment shortages; Load and unload materials and places in correct locations or storage areas. You will mark material packaging or labels material for proper identification, and take appropriate action for special categories of material such as Level I, Depot Level Repairable, Arms, Ammunition and Explosives, etc. You will perform physical inventory counts and location audits to maintain inventory validity. You will update an automated supply information system, such as the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning system, to reflect receipts, stows, location changes, issues, and inventory counts, using keyboard data entry and/or handheld barcode equipment. You will use appropriate MHE for handling of material and take action to ensure that material is properly secured to pallets and protected from exposure to the elements.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks of a Materials Handler demonstrated through experience, working under normal supervision performing a majority of the following tasks: receiving, issuing, handling, selecting and preparing for shipment, segregating, storing, stowing, inventorying, and documenting the movement and storage of supplies, equipment, and materials, including hazardous, in accordance with prescribed regulations; performing inspections of incoming shipments to check for damage; documenting discrepancies; reading shipping and tracking documents; using computer applications to maintain required data; performing the consolidation, rotation, or relocation of stored items, as directed; complying with prescribed proper handling and storage procedures; operating forklifts and material handling equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
