You will serve as a MATERIALS HANDLER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT-INTEGRATED SOLID WASTE DIVISION of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will identify type of material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, shelving, restraints) necessary to move or store heavy, bulky, or odd-shaped items. You will safely operate a forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, or other material handling equipment to gather items for shipment. You will operate recycling equipment (e.g., balers, crushing machines, scales) to compact recyclable material. You will conduct safety inspections to verify equipment is safe to operate. You will separate and sort material to determine identifiable characteristics for reuse or collection.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license. Out of state license is acceptable, however, incumbent must have it transferred to a Washington State Driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Safely operating forklifts and motor vehicles with a gross weight up to 26,000 pounds; 2) Separating recycling according to categories of materials as described in recycling regulations; 3) Loading, lifting, moving, and unloading large bulky items which may weigh up to 20,000 pounds; and 4) Performing routine pre-checks, general inspections and housekeeping of all vehicles and equipment that will be operated and reporting any discrepancies. **NOTE** This information must be clearly supported in your resume.
