You will serve as a MATERIALS HANDLER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will identify type of material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, shelving, restraints) necessary to move or store heavy, bulky, or odd-shaped items. You will move heavy materials in close quarters (e.g., narrow aisles or ramps, in and out of buildings, on and off trucks or other conveyance). You will operate power equipment and small hand tools to assist with warehousing duties. You will safely operate a forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, or other material handling equipment to gather items for shipment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION 1) Identifying materials turned in for recycling and separated them into categories. 2) Operating forklifts, small material handling equipment and motor vehicles. 3) Utilizing hand tools such as wrenches, height gages, hammers, crow bars, and pliers.
