About the Position: Incumbent works under the supervision of the Chief, Military Personnel Division. As Chief, plans, coordinates, and directs the mission of the garrison Casualty Assistance Center (CAC). Manages and provides Quality Assurance for the Army's Casualty program at USAG Fort Liberty, NC.
Duties
Provides general administrative guidance to independently plan, design and carry out casualty assistance support, manage casualty operations, mortuary operations, military funeral honors, fatal accident and mass casualty support.
Supervises a Branch, which is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Provides direction, continuity and guidance to General Staff, ACOMS, subordinate commands, Reserves, and National Guard.
Provides training to all organization pertaining to casualty assistance and funeral honors on a monthly basis or as needed basis
Supervises the Contract Officer Representative in the execution of duties with relation to mortuary services contracts
Responsible for notifying and providing assistance to the Line of Duty (LOD) Officer of all incidents that may result in a formal or informal LOD.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- TDY travel is occasionally required.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
- A one-year supervisory probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:
Working in casualty affairs, mortuary affairs or similar fields performing such duties as casualty reporting notifications and investigation; AND
Providing Casualty Affairs related training to staff and external organizations; AND
Leading and managing personnels in all aspect of their daily operations.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
