This position ensures that supplies and materials are distributed to areas in the NIH Clinical Center. The incumbent performs supply technician functions for multiple areas in a medical research hospital. The supplies handled are medical and are special items of a critical/sensitive nature. Equipment and supplies may be temperature - controlled or fragile and/or require special storage specifications and handling. The incumbent must identify and document the environmental data for each item.

Duties

Providing direct stock and change management to units including patient care areas as well as to the research labs throughout the Clinical Center. Maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative areas. Utilizing computer systems to monitor, order and receive supplies. Pulling stock inventory and material from main inventory for delivery. Monitoring expiration date and rotates stock in accordance with the FIFO (First in, First out) system in the operating room. Receiving, verifying, and signing shipping documents for all merchandise acquired and is responsible for verifying the quantity and condition of merchandise ordered against purchase documents. Receiving supplies/materials, unpacking items from shipping cartons and storing in main inventory areas. Providing reliable, competent, responsive and courteous service to all customers.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
  • If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination, provide evidence of immunization, and be free of communicable diseases.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Applicants must meet all qualifications requirements within thirty (30) calendar days of the closing date of this announcement, including time in grade.
  • The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
  • The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, such as working around moving warehouse equipment, carts, or machines.
  • The incumbent may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection, and gloves.
  • This position has been designated as a Tier I "Emergency Employee" position.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-05 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in performing inventory functions; assisting in checking shipping supplies; compiling data to include in reports; and assisting in responding to customer inquiries. OR Completion of 4 years of education above high school. OR A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position. You qualify at the GS-06 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing routine inventory management functions; maintaining adequate supplies and forms to support an organization; entering shipping data into a database system; and responding to customer inquiries. You qualify at the GS-07 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: ensuring supply operations comply with supply policies and regulations; monitoring and maintaining adequate supplies to support an organization; processing and storing shipping materials; using online reporting systems to maintain and track inventory; and communicating information related to supply to customers.
