To serve as a Lead Security Assistant providing guidance and direction to non-supervisory employees assigned the 55th Security Forces Squadron Pass and Registration section, while performing all of those duties.

Duties

1. Organizes and trains section personnel on processing applications and manufacturing controlled and restricted area badges, proper use of systems and equipment to issue access credentials to eligible personnel and conduct criminal background screening via authoritative databases and indexes. 2. Manages enrollment of personnel into the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) and trouble shoots networking or other problems associated with DBIDS equipment in the role of DBIDS Base Security Officer. 3. Exercises office lead security assistant responsibilities. Performs leadership and management duties for three civilian personnel, and up to four military staff members. 4. Represents the Pass and Registration section to customers and installation and area organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with serviced organizations, and representatives from higher headquarters. 5. Executes accountability inventories for identification credential media issued by the Pass and Registration section, and conducts criminal records checks on contractors, newly hired Federal civilian employees, and community support program volunteers for base access suitability decisions.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • Typing and computer operation is performed; however, a qualified typist is not required.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS Security Clerical and Assistance Series 0086. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a complete body of standardized security rules, regulations, directives, and procedures to support and processes a wide variety of standard ID cards, vehicle permits, restricted area badges or other forms of authorization. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of security processes, and procedures, and general clerical office functions. 2. Knowledge of installation physical security procedures, security forces/law enforcement data systems, and information required to issue badges, passes, vehicle registration, or other forms of installation and restricted area entry authorizations. 3. Skill in researching, interpreting and applying appropriate Air Force, MAJCOM, DoD, DHS, and local policies and regulations. 4. Ability to plan and organize work, follow instructions, and accomplishes multiple ongoing projects. 5. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, using a high degree of tact and courtesy.6. Ability to provide leadership for active-duty military, and civilian staff members to effectively execute office responsibilities. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
