You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENTIST in the SUBMARINE NAVIGATION BRANCH (NP432), SUBMARINE PRODUCTS DIVISION (NP43), HYDROGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT (NP4), NAVAL OCEANOGRAPHIC OFFICE (NP4) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform updates of bathymetry and hydrographic models on a scheduled basis. You will perform automated data analyses of bathymetric, hydrographic and related data sets. You will provide technical guidance to internal employees on assigned projects. You will serve as the alternate Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the Hydrographic Department

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. EXPERIENCE: In addition in the basic requirments stated above, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Experience processing incoming refined field navigation and sonar data to a gridded format for bathymetry and hydrographic models; Experience researching, reviewing and acquiring archival data, charts and publications to determine geomorphological characteristics of areas under compilation; and Experience developing tests and maintaining algorithms, models, procedures and software for the computation and analysis.
