About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate Specialist (DAVAS) providing comprehensive assistance and liaison services.

Duties

Utilize a trauma-informed approach with victims of abuse executing lethality assessments, safety planning, explanation of restricted reporting, and non-clinical counseling. Develop short-and long-term safety prevention strategies and recommends supportive actions during consultations and briefings with Command. Serve as a first responder and support the installation’s coordinated community response team in domestic violence incidents. Conduct professional level briefings and facilitates interactive training utilizing various service modalities. Evaluate and analyzes procedures and policies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the program.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Secret background investigation.
  • Position may require duty travel 5% of the time.
  • May be required to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs.; walking and standing is also expected during training and other related events.
  • Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate (DAVA) will comply with the DAVA credentialling provisions of DOD Instruction 6400.06.
  • All Army Domestic Abuse Victim Advocates will obtain a Domestic Abuse Victim Abuse Victim Advocate credential at the basic or higher level within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Position requires a Child Care State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check.
  • Position requires a pre-employment Physical and annual examination thereafter to ensure the required level of physical fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Position may require working other than normal duty hours to include on call or rotational shifts.

This is a Planned Management Action for current Department of the Army Employees with the Fort Carson Directorate of Morale, Welfare, and recreation, Army Community Services Division within the local commuting area. Current Civilian Employees of the Organization In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate Specialist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Counseling. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Providing crisis intervention services to victims of domestic abuse; Developing safety prevention strategies; Coordinating services related to domestic abuse with all respective agencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Counseling. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Information ManagementInterpersonal SkillsOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
