You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the INFRASTRUCTURE DIVISION, CORPORATE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER PORT HUENEME DIVISION WHITE SANDS DETACHMENT, located in White Sands Missile Range, NM.

Duties

You will conduct safety and occupational health workplace and program evaluations and surveys. You will coordinate with the Naval Hospital industrial hygienist to assess occupational health hazards and workplace exposures. You will plan, schedule, and conduct periodic scheduled and unscheduled inspections and surveys of assigned facilities and operations to identify safety and occupational health hazards and to evaluate for compliance with applicable standards. You will review plans and procedures for operational, equipment, or facility modifications to ensure the safety and health of personnel and the safety of equipment and facilities are not compromised. You will investigate safety mishaps, injuries, illnesses, or near misses which may result in the permanent or temporary disability of a worker due to workplace mishaps. You will gather facts relevant to the incident, generates reports and lessons learned identifying causal factors and corrective actions to prevent occurrence in future operations. You will provide technical safety training to NSWC PHD personnel using a wide variety of materials, publications, protective devices, and visual aids.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting safety and occupational health surveys or inspections to identify and eliminate potential hazards for safety programs.
