About the Position: Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or detail NTE 3 years by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years. Position may be made permanent without further competition. Employees are not eligible for a detail in the OCONUS area unless already residing in the same overseas area as the position being filled.

Duties
Perform continuing oversight and evaluation of the adequacy of the safety efforts of WSMR elements and tenants.
Conduct on-site evaluation, analyzes plans and procedures, identifies hazards and other inadequacies, prescribes measures to eliminate or otherwise control such hazards and to remedy deficiencies, and prepares evaluation reports.
Develop long-term safety program plans and initiatives including budget and manpower requirements.
Develop, implement, and manage occupational health and sanitation safety programs including joint or separate surveys of conditions affecting the health and efficiency of personnel.
Manage the safety education and promotion programs designed to inculcate and maintain interest in accident prevention.
Develop and implement policies and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent required to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- May be required to wear protective clothing and equipment.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG).
- This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination
- This is an obligated position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing safety or occupational health program elements; developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
