You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Rapid Innovation Branch (Code 100TO.32), Innovation and Technology Insertion Division (Code 100TO.3), Transformation Office (Code 100TO) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will develop Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and the Technical Documentation Package (TDP) using techniques to optimize 3D printing capabilities with consideration for cost reduction.
You will analyze engineering drawings, existing parts and other technical data to determine the feasibility of manufacturing using additive manufacturing techniques.
You will prepare the developed CAD model for printing using available software.
You will prepare drawings and operator instructions, showing material and parts setups and provides the required information to develop and to complete the TDP.
You will advise design engineers and process planners of the capabilities and limitations of rapid prototyping and 3D printing.
You will will operate and maintain a range of prototyping equipment, including CNC machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, and other fabrication tools.
You will use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances. The incumbent will maintain detailed records of inspection results and report any issues to the engineering team.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience implementing comprehensive knowledge of CAD modeling practices and programs, including but not limited to Solid Edge, Solidworks, AutoCAD, Inventor, etc.
Experience designing complex components made from metals, plastics, composites, or resins using various manufacturing processes and equipment.
Experience using CAD/CAM software (e.g. Mastercam, Fusion 360, etc.) and slicing software (e.g. Cura, Simplify3D) and experience with post processing techniques for 3D printed parts.
Experience using 3D scanning hardware and software and being proficient at interpreting engineering drawings and visualizing objects in three dimensions, including the ability to reverse engineer items from 3D scans.
Experience applying knowledge of material properties, behaviors, applications, and limitations of plastics, metals, composites, resins, etc.
Experience applying and interpreting geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) as it relates to engineering and shop tooling drawings.
Experience with emerging innovations in additive and subtractive manufacturing to advise management on the targeted procurement of new technologies and equipment.
Experience communicating orally and in writing to provide technical expertise to management officials.
Experience working independently to plan, organize, and establish priorities on assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
